Sue Bastian & Brian West began making wine in 1998
Sue, a biochemist working in the medical field began a postgraduate degree in winemaking at the Waite campus – University of Adelaide and soon realized that her future lay in the wine industry. Achieving impressive results in her studies, Sue is now employed by the University of Adelaide – Waite campus as the lecturer in wine sensory studies and wine making, conducts research in sensory perception, runs industry courses in wine & food sensory evaluation and has judged at a number of regional wine shows.
Brian, a guitar designer/maker, musical instrument repairer & retailer of some 30 years, furthered his interest in wine by completing a winemaking course at Adelaide’s Regency TAFE, viticulture and winemaking at Urrbrae AE and a Roseworthy wine evaluatuion course.
Bastian West Wines are not vingerons, but instead choose to purchase selected parcels of fruit from South Australia’s renowned wine growing areas, producing limited volumes of premium wine.
